Bloodline Champions will be returning to Dreamhack Winter this year, and so will BLGaming! You asked for it, and you got it! Semmler 'The Riot' will be traveling to Sweden once again to commentate this season's $10k BLC Championship!

DreamHack and Alienware are proud to present the DreamHacks official tournament in Bloodline Champions at DreamHack Winter 2011. Bloodline Champions is a swedish PvP-game free-to-play with amazing gameplay. Tournament is organized by DreamHack, Stunlock Studios and 2GD Solutions and feature a total prize purse of $10,000.

Today we’re proud to present all the [readmore]details about our upcoming eSports tournament in Bloodline Champions. The $10,000 tournament will be a 16-team main tournament, 12 Teams will be Invited and an additional 4 teams will qualify from the DreamHack BYOC. The two best teams will play the Grand Final at DreamArena Extreme infront of thousands in the audience and hundreds of thousands watching the livestream. What is KTK?

Team Eligibility

All teams are eligible to play, but all games must be played on EU servers. US servers are allowed ONLY IF both teams agree to it.

Team Composition

All participating teams must have a captain and up to four other members. Minimum roster size is 3. Participating players may not play for more than one team in any given tournament.

The current King MAY NOT change roster OR change their team name. If they do, they forfeit their streak and get reset to 0. All other teams are free to change their roster from tourney to tourney, but once they are crowned King, roster changes and team changes are not allowed. Therefore, make sure you are satisfied with your team and roster when you register.

KTK Format

In every tournament, the winning team will be crowned King. King status will carry over to the following week's tournament.

Each week, after the tournament, the King may choose to claim the payout money or defend their King status for the following week. For each consecutive week that a King successfully defends their title, their prize payout will increase based on the payout tier.

However, failing to defend one's King status will result in severely reduced payout. Instead of being paid one's current payout tier, the former King team will only receive a payout equal to one third of what they've earned. Please note that you must win two successive weeks to be eligible for this half payment.

Furthermore, King status will transfer to the winning team and they will begin their streak at 3 tiers below the tier of the former King. Kings that lose on the first tier will receive no payout and the new King will begin at tier 1.

In other words, the longer a team's winning streak across tournaments, the more money they will earn.

Example of KTK Format

If Team A wins their first tournament, they will have a streak of 1 tournament win. At this point, they can choose to receive tier 1 payout ($20) OR they can choose to defend their title by trying to win 1st place the following week. Team A chooses to defend.

But the following week, Team D wins 1st place. Team A's streak was 6 tournament wins, so they will receive a payout equal to one third of what they earned, which would be $195 / 3 = $65.

Team D would then begin their King status with a streak of 3 tiers below, which would be tier 6 - 3 = 3. At this point, Team D could choose to receive tier 3 payout ($75) OR they can choose to defend their title for the following week.

Stunlock Studios has finally announced that the highly anticipated 'Dawn of the Relics' or BLC 2.0 patch will go live tomorrow! This patch is a major game-changer, incorporating traits, medallions, and gems into the new Account Progression, along with a handful of other additions to the game that will make the experience much more enjoyable to new and seasoned players alike.

Anyone who has watched or participated in a previous Kill the King tournament knows that it is just for the elite. It is all or nothing, no love for second place. That ends now! Bloodline Champions, Banning bloodlines is not ...

The background
With the last patch, "The vacation", there has been a lot of heated debates amongst the Bloodline Champions players out there. Most of the rage has been thrown over Ravener and Grimrog and it's "unstoppable power". There has also been a lot of talk about FotM (Flavor of the Month) over the last year and what this have had for effect on the game.

Flavor of the Month[readmore]
There is a current misunderstanding what FotM is and it have gotten some bad rep because of the last few patches 'balance problems'. But FotM isn't a bad thing, it's even impossible to avoid in a game like Bloodline Champions. Why? Because there will always be something new and exciting every patch that players find or want to test. It may be good for the current 'meta game' or even, as in some cases, be totally overpowered. It's important to remember that FotM is not the same thing as overpowered, but a FotM can be overpowered.

Banning Bloodlines
With that said, under the last BLC Round Table With The Pros the topic of banning bloodlines was brought up. While this seems to be a good solution for the current, past and future problem with balance. It's extremely flawed in the it's nature.

When you ban a bloodline all you do is change the pool of bloodlines. This will leave a new, smaller, selection of bloodlines to be picked and played leading to even less variation. Saying that banning will make us see more comps is false, in the long run. It will work in the start but after a few weeks or months most top tier team will have their setups well practices and locked down.

The problem is that there will only be 2 types of bans, FotM bans and counter bans.
FotM bans are bans that try to remove the current meta games strong / popular composition. By doing this you just move on to FotM #2.
Counter bans is when you decide to ban bloodlines based on what the other teams use to play, this is what most players think of when they hear banning, but the problem is that they open them self to counter picking and even surprise picks by the other team. Making it not worth the risk.

We also have to remember, that with only 1 ban you will not be able to stop most of the cheese comps out there.
The only time 1 ban each will be a perfect solution is when there is 2 bloodlines that are so overpowered that both teams must ban them to feel that they have a chance. If only 1 bloodline is needed to be banned, the team that picks first will have the advantage because they can just ban something else while the second team "must" ban the overpowered one.

New players
Another thing that need to be though about is that new players only have 4 bloodlines. If you remove 2 out of them you leave them with almost nothing to select from. Yes, this should not be a main reason not to sort a balance problem, but it still need to be considered, especially with a small community like Bloodline Champions.

While I do agree that overpowered comps are boring, most of the time we will not see them in high end tournaments (with a few exception). Because most teams are good enough to learn from their mistakes and how to counter a comp. It may be harder then you want, but it's shit you have to take.

We have a new patch soon™ the meta will change again, we will have "overpowered" comps again for a while. The problem is not how we select bloodlines but rather the bloodlines them self. This can also be said about double bloodlines, but that's another story for another day.

Funcom announces the release of Bloodline Champions in Russia, entering into an agreement with Innova Systems and launching a fully localized Russian version of the game.

What is KTK?

Kill the King (KTK) is a series of weekly 3v3 tournaments aimed primarily at European BLC players, but North American players are welcome to play. KTK differs from other tournaments by combining concepts from ladder-type tournaments and king-of-the-hill-type tournaments.

KTK is played on Sundays at 1pm New York (19:00 Sweden).

Team Eligibility

All teams are eligible to play, but all games must be played on EU servers. US servers are allowed ONLY IF both teams agree to it.

Team Composition

All participating teams must have a captain and up to four other members. Minimum roster size is 3. Participating players may not play for more than one team in any given tournament.

The current King MAY NOT change roster OR change their team name. If they do, they forfeit their streak and get reset to 0. All other teams are free to change their roster from tourney to tourney, but once they are crowned King, roster changes and team changes are not allowed. Therefore, make sure you are satisfied with your team and roster when you register.

Registration

KTK Format

In every tournament, the winning team will be crowned King. King status will carry over to the following week's tournament.

Each week, after the tournament, the King may choose to claim the payout money or defend their King status for the following week. For each consecutive week that a King successfully defends their title, their prize payout will increase based on the payout tier.

However, failing to defend one's King status will result in severely reduced payout. Instead of being paid one's current payout tier, the former King team will only receive a payout equal to one third of what they've earned. Please note that you must win two successive weeks to be eligible for this half payment.

Furthermore, King status will transfer to the winning team and they will begin their streak at 3 tiers below the tier of the former King. Kings that lose on the first tier will receive no payout and the new King will begin at tier 1.

In other words, the longer a team's winning streak across tournaments, the more money they will earn.

Example of KTK Format

If Team A wins their first tournament, they will have a streak of 1 tournament win. At this point, they can choose to receive tier 1 payout ($20) OR they can choose to defend their title by trying to win 1st place the following week. Team A chooses to defend.

If Team A wins the next tournament, they will have a streak of 2 tournament wins. At this point, they can choose to receive tier 2 payout ($45) OR they can choose to defend their title by trying to win 1st place the following week. Team A chooses to defend.

Suppose Team A wins 1st place for a few more weeks and now they have a streak of 6 tournament wins. At this point, they can choose to receive tier 6 payout ($195) OR they can choose to defend their title by trying to win 1st place the following week. Team A chooses to defend.

But the following week, Team D wins 1st place. Team A's streak was 6 tournament wins, so they will receive a payout equal to one third of what they earned, which would be $195 / 3 = $65.

Team D would then begin their King status with a streak of 3 tiers below, which would be tier 6 - 3 = 3. At this point, Team D could choose to receive tier 3 payout ($75) OR they can choose to defend their title for the following week.
